Maybe this year’s new work-from-home normal has got you battling toddler hands on your laptop keys, or maybe WFH is your MO. Either way, working from home with children in tow can be a challenge. But it doesn’t have to drive you crazy.
Managing the Work-From-Home Routine
In order to create a more sustainable system for working with less interruptions, try these three tools.
Protect Time For Work
Don’t make your kids compete with your computer for attention. Plan out your designated work time (pencil it in on your calendar!) and protect it. You deserve the time to work on your business and pursue your passions, so commit to that time consistently and with confidence.
Set Aside A Specific Work Space
It’s hard to get into your hustle at at kitchen counter. Designate a specific workplace — a guest bedroom, a special desk, the library, or even a co-working space — and create a routine by going to that special space every time you work.
Communicate Expectations
Treat your kids (and your work) with respect by clearly establishing and communicating expectations with your children, so they know that when it’s your Work Time, Mom is occupied. They can engage in their own specific activity, and you can have your work time. Clearly-expressed expectations mean less conflict.
