Being a mom and business owner is a badge of honor.
Because you wear both hats (and likely, a few more!) it’s normal to have your kids nearby while fielding business calls or attending to work to-dos. Here’s how to minimize the irritation — and manage interruptions — when your kids make an appearance on business calls.
Never Apologize.
Begin your business calls by letting your contact know that your children are nearby and might make noise — but never apologize. You’re a mamapreneur! Kids are an important part of your life, and you do not need to be ashamed of that. But show respect for your client by being clear and open and alerting them to the possible interruptions at the beginning of the call; this way, they can be understanding if/when kids pop in.
Plan Ahead.
The best way is to prevent interruptions is by planning ahead. Schedule your calls during times when you can be away from your kids, like when they’re at school or with babysitter. If you can’t, be transparent with your contact right away that interruptions might come up.
Embrace it.
Above all, embrace your role as a mom and business owner. There is no reason to be embarrassed — so rock it! You’re doing amazing things.
